Temporal Lift in Istanbul, Turkey
Short answer: A temporal lift (temple lift) is a surgical technique for drooping in the outer third of the eyebrow. The incision is hidden in the hair-bearing scalp at the temple; the tail of the brow is lifted, and crow's feet at the outer eye corner may improve to some degree. It does not lift the inner or middle brow.
A low brow tail can make the eyes look more tired or heavy than you feel. Consultations and postoperative checks with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yalçın Bayram take place at his practice in Nişantaşı (Harbiye, Şişli, Istanbul); the operation takes place in a hospital.

These timings reflect the general course of brow lift techniques and vary between individuals.
Which areas does a temporal lift target?
- The outer third of the brow (brow tail): the main target, aiming for a more lifted, arched brow shape, sometimes called a cat eye effect.
- The outer eye corner: some improvement in crow's feet lines.
- The upper eyelid: low brows can push eyelid skin down into a hooded look, so a temporal lift is often assessed alongside upper eyelid surgery.
It does not lift the middle or inner brow and has no effect on frown lines between the brows. Repositioning the outer eye corner itself is the role of almond eye surgery; cheek, jawline and neck sagging is addressed by a facelift.
Temporal lift vs brow lift vs fox eye surgery
| Procedure | Target area | Incision site | May suit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Temporal lift | Outer third (tail) of the brow | Short incisions in the scalp at the temples | People in whom only the brow tail has dropped |
| Brow lift (endoscopic) | Inner, middle and outer brow plus forehead | 3–5 small incisions in the scalp | Mild to moderate brow descent, normal or short forehead, noticeable frown |
| Fox eye surgery (canthoplasty) | Outer corner of the eye | About 1 cm in the outer upper eyelid crease | Outer eye corners lower than inner corners, or a wish for a more elongated eye |
Techniques can be combined: temple incisions can be added to an endoscopic approach, and almond eye surgery is often planned with a temporal lift. The right combination is decided at consultation.
How is a temporal lift performed? Incisions and scars
The incision is hidden within the scalp in the temple region, and the brow tail is moved to a higher position. The amount of lift and the fixation details are planned for your anatomy at consultation.
An endoscopic brow lift is a different technique: three to five small incisions behind the hairline, a camera (endoscope), weakening of the muscles that pull the brows down and fixation of the forehead tissue higher on the bone. If the whole brow needs attention the endoscopic technique may be considered; if only the tail is low, a temporal approach may be enough. See our endoscopic brow lift guide for a full comparison.
In both techniques the incisions sit within the hair, so scars are usually discreet once healed, although every incision leaves a scar and scar quality varies. Temporary hair loss around the incisions may occur and usually recovers within months; lasting thinning is uncommon but remains a small risk.
Who may be suitable?
- People in whom only the outer tail of the brow has dropped, including age-related drooping
- Those who would like a more lifted, arched brow shape
- People in good general health with realistic expectations
A different or additional procedure may be needed if the inner and middle brow are also low or frown lines are prominent (endoscopic brow lift), sagging is very advanced (hairline or coronal forehead lift), the outer eye corner itself is low (almond eye surgery), there is marked upper eyelid skin excess (blepharoplasty) or the lower face is the main concern (facelift). At consultation, brow height and shape, asymmetry, forehead height, the hairline, frown lines and upper eyelid skin are assessed together. Because lifting the brow more than necessary can create a surprised or artificial look, preserving a natural expression is the priority in planning.
Which procedures can be combined with a temporal lift?
- Upper eyelid surgery: correcting the brow can partially relieve upper lid heaviness and in some cases may remove the need for eyelid surgery. Same-session or separate surgery is decided at consultation. See upper and lower eyelid surgery.
- Almond eye surgery: often combined with a brow lift, a temporal lift and upper eyelid surgery.
- Facelift and fat grafting: brow procedures can be planned with a facelift and combined with facial fat grafting.
Recovery after a temporal lift
- First week: mild swelling and occasional bruising, which may descend around the eyes; rest with your head elevated. Stitches or clips usually come out within 1 week.
- 1–2 weeks: most swelling subsides; most patients return to social life and desk work.
- 1 month: most activities, including light exercise, are permitted; temporary scalp numbness or itching may occur.
- 3–6 months: tissues settle and the final result emerges.
Risks include temporary, and rarely lasting, reduced sensation; mostly temporary hair thinning at the incisions; asymmetry or more or less lift than expected; some brow descent over time; bleeding, infection and variable scar quality. Your personal risks are discussed at consultation.
Planning a temporal lift in Istanbul from the UK or Europe
Travel, surgery and follow-up should be planned together.
- Before you book: send clear photos of your face from the front, in profile and at 45-degree angles. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yalçın Bayram personally reviews them, and your plan is confirmed at a face-to-face consultation in Istanbul before surgery.
- Scheduling: consultation, surgery and follow-up dates are agreed as part of your individual plan; confirm accommodation and transport before travelling.
- Hospital and practice: the operation takes place in a hospital, with arrangements discussed beforehand; checks are carried out at the Nişantaşı practice.
- Going home: return travel is planned after the surgeon's postoperative assessment. Confirm the follow-up schedule and how to contact the clinic if you have a concern.

Frequently Asked Questions About Temporal Lift
Temporal lift or brow lift: which do I need?
If only the outer tail of the brow has dropped, a temporal lift may be enough; it lifts the tail through short incisions in the scalp at the temples. If the inner and middle brow are also low or frown lines are prominent, an endoscopic brow lift, which treats the whole brow together with the forehead, is considered. The choice is made at consultation.
How is a temporal lift different from fox eye surgery?
A temporal lift targets the tail of the brow. Fox eye (almond eye) surgery, or lateral canthoplasty, repositions the tendon that anchors the outer corner of the eye to a higher point on the orbital rim, through an incision in the outer upper eyelid crease. The two are often planned together.
Will a temporal lift leave a scar?
The incisions are hidden within the hair-bearing scalp at the temples, so once healed the scars are usually discreet. Every incision still leaves a scar, and scar quality varies from person to person.
How soon can I return to work after a temporal lift?
After brow lift techniques, most patients return to social life and desk work within 7 to 10 days, once significant swelling has subsided. The final result takes several months to settle.
How long do temporal lift results last?
Surgical brow lift techniques aim for long-lasting results. Natural ageing continues, and how long the result is maintained varies from person to person.
Can a temporal lift be combined with eyelid surgery?
Yes, the two are often assessed together, because removing too much upper eyelid skin while a low brow is overlooked can draw the brow down further. Whether they are done in the same session or separately is decided at consultation.
Will I lose hair around the incisions?
The incisions are made at an angle that avoids damaging the hair follicles. Temporary hair loss around the incisions may occur and usually recovers within months; lasting thinning is uncommon but remains a small risk.
When can I fly home after a temporal lift in Turkey?
Return travel depends on the extent of surgery, your recovery and the treating surgeon's postoperative assessment. Confirm the planned length of your stay before booking, and follow the surgeon's advice before flying.
